Brief Description:

Wise Fellowship for Ph.D. (WISE-PhD) 2023 is an opportunity offered by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) under the ‘Women in Science and Engineering-KIRAN (WISE-KIRAN)’ scheme. The scheme aims to provide an opportunity to unemployed women who desire to pursue Ph.D. in Basic and Applied Sciences with this fellowship under the ‘WISE-PhD’ programme. The support will be offered in the following five subject areas:

  • Physical & Mathematical Sciences
  • Chemical Sciences
  • Life Sciences
  • Earth & Atmospheric Sciences
  • Engineering & Technology

Selected candidates will receive a monthly stipend of INR 31,000 and other benefits.

Eligibility

To be eligible, an applicant must –

  • be an Indian citizen
  • be a woman candidate between the age of 27-45 years (Note – Relaxation of 3 years in the upper age limit will be made for candidates belonging to the SC/ST/PH category)
  • hold an M.Sc/M.Tech or equivalent degree like B.Tech/M.Phil./M.Pharm etc.

Note –

  • It is mandatory to register for Ph.D. within 6 months of receipt of the recommendation letter.
  • Women in regular employment are not eligible for WISE-PhD.

Benefits

Selected candidates will receive a monthly stipend of INR 31,000, a House Rent Allowance (HRA) as per norms, a research grant of INR 1 lakh per annum, and a fixed overhead amount of INR 50,000 per annum.
