Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak

Realising the important role of education which it plays in the overall national development, the Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak established a Correspondence Cell in the year 1988 for imparting education through ‘Correspondence’ leading to the award of B.Ed. degree. The University, with the passage of time, development of technology and requirement of society, upgraded the Correspondence Cell to Directorate and has expanded tremendously. The Directorate is providing opportunities for higher education to a large segment of population especially disadvantaged groups living in remote and rural areas, adults, housewives and working people. We aspire to create, preserve, and disseminate knowledge to build competitive capability for holistic development of person and society. The various programmes offered by the Directorate are as per needs of the area and employment opportunities available therein. In order to meet the growing demand of open and distance learning, the Directorate has enriched in terms of resources for further access to the aspirants. It aims at establishing itself as a centre of excellence in Distance Education.

Directorate of Distance Education of Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak offers 13 Undergraduate/ Postgraduate programmes, duly recognized by DEB, UGC, the admissions to which are made at its headquarters only since 2013.

10. Osmania University

Originally named, Institute of Correspondence Courses and founded in 1977, the Centre changed its name in 1989 to be in tune with the emergence of distance education as an alternative mode of learning. The National Policy on Education 1986 (revised in 1992) says, “The Open Learning System has been initiated in order to augment opportunities for higher education, as an instrument of democratising education and to make it a lifelong process”. The Centre has steadily increased its courses both Under Graduate and Post-Graduate and has plans for starting new courses having job opportunities. The Under Graduate and Post-Graduate programmes in Humanities and Social Sciences are also offered under learner motivated and paced open learning system.
The flexibility and innovativeness of the Open Learning System are particularly suited to the diverse requirementsof the citizens of the country, including those who have joined the vocational stream. Its ideas and innovations, and the application of technologies in providing convenient and cost effective programmes of education are now widely recognized and appreciated. It has designed, developed and delivered high quality academic programmes. 11. Shivaji University, Kolhapur

About the institute:
Distance Education is a generic term that includes the range of teaching learning strategies variously described as home study, correspondence education or independent study.
It is a highly welcome step in the direction of taking education to the doors of those willing to acquire higher education but, being unable to do so owing to lack of resources or paucity of time. In India Distance Education opportunities at the University level have increased enormously. 12. M.P. Bhoj University, Madhya Pradesh

The National Policy of Education (NPE) 1986, emphasized that distance education is an important medium for the development and promotion of higher education. In this context, for the expansion and promotion of distance education the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE), Government of India took an important decision that in the VIIIthyear plan every state should establish a state open university following the distance education pattern. On this basis Madhya Pradesh Bhoj (Open) University (MPBOU) was established under an Act of State Assembly in 1991 with the following objectives :-
To Extend and Expand Higher Education by reaching the un-reached through various flexible means suited to the open and distance education mode using emerging information and communication technology.
To promote national integration and the integrated development of human personality for the well being of the community.
To determine/maintain standards and promote Distance Education.
