The American Indian Nurse Scholarship Program will award scholarships to students of American Indian descent who are pursuing careers in nursing. Upon graduating, students are expected to work to improve health care for American Indians, either on reservations or in hospitals thatserve significant Indian populations.
Eligible candidates must meet the following criteria:
• Enrolled in a tribe or village. Students not enrolled may be considered if they can prove direct tribal ancestry
• A high school graduate, in the last semester of high school, or have equivalent education
• Enrolled in an accredited school
• Enrolled in the health professional program, having achieved good scholastic standing in pre- nursing, pre-med; or, enrolled in a health care or health education program
• Expected to graduate 2 years after enrollment in an Associate Degree program or 4 years after enrollment in a B.S. program
• Maintain the scholastic average required by the school
• Recommended by a counselor, teacher or other school official
• Demonstrate need of financial assistance
• Focused on a career goal directly related to the healthcare needs of the American Indian, Alaskan Native, or Hawaiian Native community
Post-graduate students are also eligible.
$1,500 per semester for tuition and other academic expenses.
Scholarship funding will continue each semester as long as the student remains in good academic standing.
