Pre-Matric Scholarships for SC Students, Meghalaya 2023-24

Brief Description:

Pre-Matric Scholarships for SC Students, Meghalaya 2023-24 is an initiative for SC students of the state studying in Classes 9 and 10. The scholarship is being offered by the Government of Meghalaya. The objective of this scheme is to support the education of SC students to eliminate the incidence of dropout, especially during the transition from elementary to the secondary stage. The selected students will receive a monthly scholarship grant of ₹350 and other allowances.

Eligibility

To be eligible, an applicant must:- 

  • be domiciled in Meghalaya
  • belong to the Scheduled Caste (SC) category
  • be a regular full-time student studying in Class 9 and 10 in a government school or a school recognised by the government or a Central/State Board of Secondary Education (CBSE/SBSE)
  • have an annual parent(s)/guardian(s) income of not more than ₹2,50,000

Note:- In case, a student is granted two scholarships simultaneously, they may have the choice to select either of these and their preference should be formally communicated to the awarding authorities through the Head of their Institutions.

Benefits

The selected scholars will receive the following benefits:-

Additional allowances for students with disabilities studying in private unaided schools:-

The ‘Inclusive Education of the Disabled at Secondary Stage’ (IEDSS) scheme, run by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), offers financial aid to students with disabilities attending secondary-level government, government-aided, and local body schools. This assistance falls under the scheme’s “Student Oriented Component” and aims to support the education of the students at the post-matric level.

However, students in un-aided schools are not covered under the ‘Inclusive Education of the Disabled at Secondary Stage’ (IEDSS).

Therefore, SC students with disabilities, studying in Class 9 and 10 in private un-aided recognised schools, will be eligible for allowances as follows:-

Allowances for students with disabilities studying in Private unaided Schools Amount (In ₹)
Monthly reader allowance for blind students 160
Monthly transport allowance for students with disabilities (as defined in the Persons with Disabilities Act 1995), if such students do not reside in the hostel which is within the premises of the educational institution 160
Monthly escort allowance for severely disabled (i.e. with 80% or higher disability) day scholars/students with low extremity disability 160
A monthly helper allowance is admissible to any of the hostels willing to extend help to a severely orthopedically handicapped student residing in the hostel of an educational institution who may need the assistance of a helper 160
Monthly coaching allowance to mentally retarded and mentally ill students 240

 

Note:- The disability as defined under the Persons with Disabilities (equal opportunities, Protection of Rights and Full Participation Act, 1995) Act has to be certified by competent medical authority of the State Govt./UT Administration.

Documents

  • A passport-size photograph
  • One attested copy of academic transcripts including degree, certificate, etc.
  • A valid caste certificate duly signed by an authorised Revenue Officer (RO), not below the rank of Tehsildar
  • An income declaration by the self-employed parent(s)/guardian(s) issued by an authorised Revenue Officer (RO), not below the rank of Tehsildar
  • A receipt in acknowledgement of the scholarship in the previous year (if applicable)
