Pre-Matric Scholarships for ST Students (Class 9 & 10), Meghalaya 2023-24

Brief Description:

Pre-Matric Scholarships for ST Students (Class 9 & 10), Meghalaya 2023-24 is an initiative of the Department of Education, Government of Meghalaya, to provide financial assistance to ST students of the state who are studying in Class 9 and 10. The selected students will receive a monthly scholarship of ₹350 and other grants.

Eligibility

To be eligible, an applicant must:- 

  • be domiciled in Meghalaya
  • belong to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category
  • be a full-time student of Class 9 and 10 in a government school or a school recognised by the government or a Central/State Board of Secondary Education (CBSE/SBSE)
  • have an annual parent(s)/guardian(s) income of not more than ₹2,50,000

Note:- Applicants should not be receiving any other centrally-funded pre-matric scholarship.

Benefits

The selected scholars will receive the following benefits:-

Scholarship for 10 months (₹ per month)   150 350

Additional allowances for students with disabilities studying in private unaided schools:-

Under this scheme, ST students studying in Class 9 and 10 in government, local body and government aided schools will receive ₹3,000. However, students in un-aided schools are not covered under the ‘Inclusive Education of the Disabled at Secondary Stage’ (IEDSS). Therefore, ST students with disabilities, studying in Class 9 and 10 in private un-aided recognised schools, will be eligible for allowances as follows:-

Allowances for students with disabilities studying in Private unaided Schools Amount (In ₹)
Monthly reader allowance for blind students 160
Monthly transport allowance for students with disabilities (as defined in the Persons with Disabilities Act 1995), if such students do not reside in the hostel which is within the premises of the educational institution 160
Monthly escort allowance for severely disabled (i.e. with 80% or higher disability) day scholars/students with low extremity disability 160
A monthly helper allowance is admissible to any of the hostels willing to extend help to a severely orthopedically handicapped student residing in the hostel of an educational institution who may need the assistance of a helper 160
Monthly coaching allowance to mentally retarded and mentally ill students 240

 

Note:- The disability as defined under the Persons with Disabilities (equal opportunities, Protection of rights and full participation Act, 1995) Act has to be certified by competent medical authority of the State Govt./UT Administration.

Documents

  • A passport-size photograph
  • One attested copy of academic transcripts including degree, certificate, etc.
  • A valid caste certificate duly signed by an authorised Revenue Officer (RO), not below the rank of Tehsildar
  • An income declaration by the self-employed parent(s)/guardian(s)
  • A receipt in acknowledgement of the scholarship in the previous year (if applicable)
