NGSF Internship Program 2024

Brief Description:

NGSF Internship Program 2024 is an internship opportunity offered by the Next Gen Scientists Foundation (NGO registered under the Trust Act of India 1882), for undergraduate and postgraduate students who wish to gain research experience in life sciences. The selected interns will receive a stipend of up to ₹6,000 per month for a period of up to 3 months upon satisfying requirements.

Eligibility

To be eligible, a candidate must:-

  • be a student studying in one of the following classes in an Indian institution
    • the second year of a 3-year undergraduate program OR
    • the second/third year of a 4-year undergraduate program OR
    • a first year of a 2-year master’s program  OR
    • the second/third/fourth year of a 5-year integrated program
  • have accepted to work in the lab of a principal investigator in any Indian institute outside of their institute of study
  • be interested in undertaking a life science-associated internship for a period of two (minimum of 56 days) or three (minimum of 84 days) months

Note:- Students receiving financial assistance from the principal investigator and/or any other agencies (KVPY, INSA, JNCASR, IIT, IISER) are eligible to apply. However, they cannot get additional support from the program.

Benefits

The selected interns will receive a stipend amount of ₹6,000 per month for on-site internships and ₹3,000 for remote internships for a period of up to 3 months upon satisfying the following requirements:

  • To receive the first month’s stipend, applicants have to get the internship joining letter filled by the hosting Principal Investigator (PI) and send the scanned version to the Next Gen Scientists Foundation (NGSF).
  • To receive the second month’s stipend, interns are required to send an article for the NGS blog under the specified guidelines before the first week of the second month of the Internship. Also, the interns are required to fill the Internship continuation letter.
  • Interns are required to submit the following:
    • work progress report for the Internship period within the last week of the second/third month
    • feedback form at the end of the internship
    • research work at the end of the internship period in the NGS Interns webinar to receive an internship completion certificate and travel reimbursements

Additionally, on-site interns will receive a reimbursement for their travel expenses, up to the amount it costs to buy a round-trip train ticket in the third-class air-conditioned (III AC) seating category.

Documents

  • Scanned university transcripts (in PDF format)
  • Acceptance letter duly filled by the Principal Investigator (PI)
  • Contact details of at least one referee (Note:- A maximum of two references are allowed)
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) [Maximum of 2 pages in PDF format)
  • A one-page research proposal with answers to the following questions:
    • Explain how the research interests align with the lab of choice.
    • What is/are the research question(s) that the project proposal aims to address? Mention specific experiments, if known, that are planned to be performed to address these questions.
    • A brief description of plans after graduation and how this research experience will help in achieving goals.

 

Note: The research proposal must be prepared according to the following standards:

  • The page must be 8 ½” x 11″ (216 mm x 279 mm).
  • Use a minimum margin of 1” on all sides.
  • All text must be Times New Roman minimum 12-point and singly spaced. Do not use condensed line spacing.
  • Any figures or tables should fit within the assigned page.
  • Additional pages are allowed for references.
  • Add Internship Application number as header and avoid usage of your name in the proposal.
