Brief Description:

Job Summary

The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) – Office of Policy, Flexibility and External Affairs is recruiting for a part time policy intern position. Under direct supervision of the Staff Attorney of the Office of Policy, Flexibility and External Affairs, this position will provide research and administrative support to the Policy Division. The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Description of Duties

  • Along with GaDOE staff, attend meetings at the General Assembly or with internal/external stakeholders
  • Conduct policy research and analysis for the Office of Policy, Flexibility, and External Affairs
  • Monitor state education-related legislation
  • Assist with day-to-day logistics, including administrative responsibilities related to policy and advocacy work
  • Draft memos for the Office of Policy, Flexibility, and External Affairs relating to legislative efforts and education policy
  • Able to maintain confidentiality
  • Able to multi-task and prioritize assignments
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills (one-on-one and in a group format)
  • High-level competency with Microsoft Office
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:

  • Current undergraduate (junior or senior), graduate, or law student at an accredited college or university in the state of Georgia
  • Majoring in education, political science, public administration, communications, law, or a related field

**This is a remote/telework position based in Downtown Atlanta. Occasional travel to Atlanta is required. The part-time internship will run from mid-December 2023 through early May 2024. The intern will work no more than 28 hours per week. This role may also earn course credit. It is the responsibility of the intern to facilitate receiving course credit.
