The concept of the SEED-Net evolved at the ASEAN-Japan Summit Meeting held in December 1997 and the central issue became how to upgrade higher engineering education by way of creating engineering institutions’ networks ASEAN-wide. As a result of a series of discussions and preparation between ASEAN Member Countries and Japan, the ASEAN University Network/Southeast Asia Engineering Education Development Network (AUN/SEED-Net) was established in 2001 as a sub-network of ASEAN University Network (AUN).

Program Concept
AUN/SEED-Net and the two Host Universities in Singapore, including National University of Singapore (NUS), and Nanyang Technological University (NTU), jointly provide scholarships for highly qualified (prospective) young faculty staff of Member Institutions to pursue direct 4-year doctoral degrees in engineering at NUS and NTU under the following fields of Engineering.

NUS

  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering
  • Civil & Environmental Engineering
  • Electrical & Computer Engineering
  • Engineering & Technology Management
  • Industrial & Systems Engineering
  • Materials Science & Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering

NTU

  • Chemical and Biomedical Engineering
  • Civil and Environmental Engineering
  • Computer Science and Engineering
  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • Materials Science and Engineering
  • Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

Twenty (20) scholarships will be provided for the Japanese Fiscal Year 2019, 10 scholarships to each of NTU and NUS.

Scholarship offer
The scholarship covers the duration of 4 years.
Benefits given will be:

  • Tuition and Monthly stipend will be covered by the Host Universities

AUN/SEED- NET will fund the following:

  • Hospitalization, surgical and personal accident insurance
  • One way air ticket for arrival in Singapore
  • University miscellaneous fees up until the end of December 2022

Sending Institution will fund or Student will self-finance:

  • The University Miscellaneous fees, from January 2023 until graduation

Note:

  • Students who need more than four years to acquire a degree to complete their study are expected to self-fund during the period of extension.
  • AUN/SEED-Net, in consultation with the Host Institutions, may suspend or terminate the scholarship of any student who fails to maintain satisfactory progress at the Host Institution.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicants must be under the age of 35 at the time of application.
  • Applicants must be either young teaching staff or graduates of Member Institutions who are strongly motivated to become a teaching staff of Member Institutions.
  • Applicants must meet the admission criteria set by Host Universities and receive an official offer issued by the Host Universities. It is mandatory to study the information available on websites of the Host Universities.
  • Applicants must demonstrate their English proficiency by means of TOEFL/IELTS/GRE test scores. Applicants must be able to submit at least one score/result e.g. TOEFL/IELTS/GRE, as part of the application and the score must be up to the university standard.
  • Applicants without an English test score may be requested to take an administered test or placement test. Exemption of English test score may be applied to applicants studying in and graduating from the English-speaking environment.
  • The scholarships are only for prospective applicants to August 2019 intake. Those who start their study before the announcement of JFY 2019 scholarships or those who are awarded and salaried by others are not eligible for AUN/SEED-Net scholarship.
