Kiva Fellows

Kiva Fellows working with Kiva Zip act as a direct connection to communities, where they promote Kiva Zip, identify Trustees and borrowers, and play a leading role in data analysis and evaluation to optimize and increase the scale of the initiative.

Eligibility: 

  • Experience traveling or living abroad (preferably in developing countries, for applicants interested in serving overseas)
  • High degree of flexibility, self-motivation and problem solving
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Fluency in English
  • Strong writing skills
  • Familiarity and comfort with technology and web-based applications
  • Dedication to working in the field
  • Experience working in cross-cultural environments
  • Ability and commitment to fund the entire fellowship
  • Excellent judgment
  • Sincere interest in microfinance and serving Kiva’s mission
  • Ability to commit to Kiva for 4+ months
  • Fluency or advanced communication ability in French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, or other languages from a country where Kiva has a presence
  • Background in economics, finance, business or consulting
  • Background in media, journalism, or communications
  • 5+ years of work experience

 

Monetary Support

Kiva Fellows have received funding from their universities, Rotary Clubs, grants, family, friends, networks, and company sponsorships.

Some Kiva Fellows have applied directly to airlines for assistance and received free flights, or asked for mileage donations from friends or family.

The Kiva Fellows Program also has apartnership with Indigoan online fundraising platform that can help you leverage your network to solicit contributions. Get creative–fundraising for this opportunity is absolutely doable!
